m The three
cereals grown by the proto-Dogon were almost certainly fonio, bulrush millet and sorghum. The
names of millet and
sorghum have a tendency to interchange but we can tentatively put forward #emba for sorghum and
#yuu for millet.
Fonio is #poŋo which is
similar to most surrounding languages
m The PD grew
at least two pulses, cowpea (#ɲuuŋe) and Bambara nut (#εgεlε) and
perhaps Kersting’s groundnut
