The mapping between vernacular names and scientific
classification is reasonable but far from 100% . In
particular,certain species are merged that we would
consider easily distinguished such as the potto and the
angwantibo and the bushbuck and sitatunga.

other hand, close observation by hunters led to the
identification of new (to the Delta or to science) species
such as the red colobus or the pygmy hippo

whereby the different growth phases of a single species
are given different names and apparently thought
to be different species
