Roger Blench: Lesser-known Asian scripts

Home

Yunnan and adjacent regions of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia are home to a number of lesser-known scripts, which were often devised for recording shamanistic material rather than for everyday communication. Some languages are better-known than others, and this page is intended to make accessible materials that are otherwise little-known. An important source is the exhibition now on display at Yunnan Minorities Museum in Kunming, where a number of these photographs were taken, as well as the explanatory material. The book cover to the right is a partial catalogue of the exhibition. I also include materials on display at other museums in Yunnan and Sichuan and also jpegs of manuscripts in private collections.
