Roger Blench:
Ouldémé opening page
The following data were collected in
February 2009 as part of a joint exercise between Roger Blench of the Kay Williamson
Educational Foundation and the Ouldeme Orthography Committee in collaboration
with William Kinnaird as part of an initiative to develop existing lexical
materials (see weblinks below). Ouldémé is unusual in that there has already
been substantial non-SIL lexical work by both Veronique de Colombel and the
Catholic Mission at Mayo Ouldémé. The current Ouldeme orthography differs
markedly from the transcription system adopted by Veronique de Colombel.
However, there are also some significant differences in both the marking of
tone and scientific identifications. The reader should take it that De
Colombel’s publications have been compared with the present work. The Ouldeme
project is being undertaken in conjunction with Vame and many of those present
were able to identify lexemes in both languages. The Ouldémé are correctly
known as Wə̀Lŕm, a
form seen in some sources. |
